Darren ONeill said...

Yes we have arrived.
We have been very busy in Rome doing what Romans do... walking, eating, walking, eating, walking some more and then eating some more!! I even think we have got a sleep in so far.
Access to the Inet has not been easy and hence an apology for no blogs up to this point. However, a quick summary and a promise of more to come later now that we know where to access an Inet cafe.
The plane trip was long but pleasant enough and the boys were excellent and even managed a coupl of hours sleep in various positions curled up together - very cute.
Upon arriving in Rome we have hit the ground running already taking in;
an open top bus tour,
- a street walk of rome at night
- a visit to the Trevi Fountain atnight
- a gelato or three.... OK four by now!
The Colloseum (awesome)
The Pantheon
Trevi Fountain
Santa Maria Maggioro
Piazza Navona to see the artists at work
we have been on the Metropolitane Underground and
managed to visit a local Parish and play their Football team in a game under lights.

--- Oh and of course we have eaten lots of Pasta and Pizza (and even some fruit Mums).

Today we are about to leave for St. Peters Vatican City and the boys are very keen to get some shopping done this afternoon.

That will have to do for now - as I said more reports to follow.

The boys are great and yes they have been washing!! both themselves and some clothes. They are a pleasure to be on tour with.

Thanks darren ONeill

Hello Stacie, Adam and Kate.

Well this place is amazing. Full of beautiful friendly people, lovely walking, Pizza,Pasta and Gelatto everywhere you look and History, History and more History. The Colloseum was spectacular and the Pantheon a BIG surprise. Enjoyed Pizza and a Gelati (well in fact Two!!) at the Trevi Fountain, but the highlight was today when we visited the Sistine Chapel and then the St. Peters Basilica. It was just magnificent, better than I could have imagined or can describe in words. One day Kids... one day!!

Rome is very busy and the Traffic chaotic yet it has a wonderful sense of rythm and flow where everyone eats and smiles - Fantastic.

We leave for Sorrento and Capri tomorrow morning ( a very early start at 6:30am for brekky, tell Adam to ring me at 12 noon if possible) but before that we are going to visit the Spanish steps and have another evening Dinner in ROMA.

I trust the AFL GF was an absolute ripper, not surprisingly it has not received much news coverage here.

I hope all is well, give my regards to Dean and Sharelle and the new baby girl Molly.

We're having a fun weekend with Donnalee, dragged her around Freo yesterday, and off to Rotto today.

Hello everyone
I have just spoken to Darren and he would like to apologise for the fact that the blogs are not coming as regular as he would like, internet access in Italy is proving difficult. He would like me to let you all know that they are having a wonderful time, they have walked over 50kms since arriving and are doing there best to work off all the Gelato!! The boys are brilliant and no one has lost anything or had anything stolen. He said watching their faces when they see some of the sights has been one of his highlights. The hotel in Sorrento is amazing, it was featured on Getaway and the view is breathtaking. They are all off to the Blue Grotto and then to Capri today. They are having an awesome time. Hopefully Darren will be able to give you more insight at their next stop. Thanks Stacie

Darren Oneill said...

Yes we are still going well.

Apolgies yet again for the lack of postings but our stay at Piano di Sorrento and then Orvieto meant no access to the net. However, now we are in Florence there should be no excuses.
The boys are all doing really well. Other that a sore throat or two, everyone is healthy and well , although a little exhausted. Our schedule is very busy and our long days often start around 7am and finish after 11pm - but we are in beautiful and spectacular Italy so we need to make every minute and second count.
Piano di Sorrento was a very different experience to Rome. A coastal setting allowed the boys to have some dips in the sea and enjoy the "rocky beaches". Our trip to the island of Capri was a real highlight. The Blue Grotto was spectacular and the photos dont quite do it justice. A boat trip around the entire island was great and then we explored the shops and restaurants from the harbour side to the top of the island. It was a glorious day (if I ever figure out to insert photos I could show you)and the weather matched the beauty of the island. O
Orvieto was another change of pace. It is in the beautiful region of Umbria and our farmstay was a welcome time to relax a little more surrounded by Olive groves, vineyards and beautiful farm buildings that date back over 250 years. The town of Orvieto was everything you would expect _ narrow cobble stoned streets, hidden laneways, geraniums on balconies, quaint shops and a magnificent Church (Duomo). We were very sad to leave our farm experience - and Mums the boys have some new cooking skills to show off upon their return (no excuses!)

We visited the Baci factory in Perrugia and walked away with what seemed to be about 3 tonnes of Chocolate. Upon arriving in Florence we visited the academia and stood in awe at the feet of the statue of David by Michaelangelo. At night we had our first look at the 1000 shops and another look at the 2000 handbag shops. Look out Mums I hope you have given some handy hints on the style you like!!

expect some more postings soon. The boys are off to The School soon.

Thanks and well done to the boys,
darren ONeill

Hi Richard, been awhile since I left a msg but have been following your itinerary closely. Good to see no one has lost anything - keep it up. Has the food been meeting with your approval?? I can sense that all you boys must be very tired as the schedule looks non stop! Get as much rest as you can and Richard do me a favour and remember to wash your hair!!!!
Also I heard that there is a special day coming up on Oct 4th that will be celebrated in Italy. A joyous occasion. Richard turns 15 years of age! Wish I could be there with you to celebrate.
Update on Chorus the amazing Beagle (aka bagel). Richard - she tried to eat 2 dead birds, has found numerous gross things on walks and was swooped upon by a nesting bird. This morning she spilled the rubbish bin all over the kitchen floor! I am now giving her the 'cold shoulder'. She went up to your room and was caught sniffing through your bag. Were there some morsels of a past lunch somewhere??? I think she misses going for a walk with you, Anthony and Mikey. Weather here not too bad. Royal Show just like going to a Factory outlet sale, not as good as it used to be. Yes, have bought you a show bag, you can show appreciation later. Hope you are spending your money wisely and make sure you buy some things for your self, do not worry about me, buy some things that you will really treasure. I hope you are well and continue to have a fantastic trip. Miss you lots and lots and lots. Chorus sends a sloppy kiss, but have just seen her eating something gross in back yard so I probably would not accept the kiss!!!!!! Ciao bello.

Hi Sam, Thanks to Giacomo for passing on my messages, sorry to Kaiden for spelling his name wrong. West Perth's Best and Fairest last night, Presto and Kirsten were there, it was a fun night. You know 1, 2 and 3rd... Saylor got best first year, Jas most couragous (heading for 2 shoulder ops before end of this year though), Longy (100 WAFL games)and Smokes (200 games) retired.
Grace has a new pair of runners to show you she has put them back in the box to keep them nice. Tom needs a bowler and Smudge needs a walk. Your report was all good, don't worry. Enjoy the scenery, smells and substance that is Italia! In French "Carpe diem".... Ask Ms Francis how the art students are creating master pieces whilst eating so much, surely your hands are full? Seriously say hi to Ms Francis from all the Art parents and tell her she can ask our boys to carry shopping for her. Love from ya Mum XXX

You don't seem to have spent much money according to your travelex account. Make sure you buy yourself something/s really special plus the other things on your list. Solomon has now been in Broome swimming for 3 days and Dad and i are now officially childless but i must say i prefer it when you are both home but am very happy you are having such an experience. Sol will blog you when he gets back. Miss hearing your voice
Happy shopping

Hi Gabe - Mum says sorry for writing "saviour" when it should have been "savour". The blog reads like many of the boys are tiring. Keep going is all I can say! I wish it were me. Enjoy every bit of it, even the shopping. (Did I just say EVEN THE SHOPPING!) I had better go and enjoy our weekend now as it is work on Monday for us. Love Dad.

Hello mum, alessandro and dad. Yes i have watched Juve vs Monaco 2nd half and it was great. The traffic is chaotic and nearly every car is FIAT or Alfa or Merc, not much holdens. It has been great and so far I am trying to look for a bag for U mum, Wat should i get give me some help text me about it. I have bought dad, alessandro and I an OFFICAL Juve shirt. i just hope alessandro's one fits him. I don't know wat to get mark. Firenze is packed full of people and there are more shops in Firenze then wat i've seen in Perth! Aparently me and 2 other people on tour were told not to wear Juve shirts in Firenze because it is dangerous (we were wearing the shirts and didnt know about this)! The food here is great. Read the other posts on wat we have done. CIAO!!

HAPPY 15TH BIRTHDAY RICHARD MARTINELLI!
Today is Sunday 4th Oct and here in Perth we are thinking of you on your special day. Hope you get to do some fun things on this day. Maybe a giant cake or gelato???
It is a lovely sunny day here, and we are having waffles for breaky in your honour! Then heading off to the beach house. Chorus the amazing bagel sends her love and yes she found a fast food snack on her morning walk earlier today! Yuk. I am missing you especially on your birthday, but will make sure we celebrate upon your return. Make sure you buy yourself lots of goodies.
Laura has not been too well and I am sure she is very jealous of you being over in Italy. Lovely weather here at last. Dad bought yet another bike, house looks like a bike shop!!
When I feel like I am missing you I go into your room and breath in those familiar aromas!!
Just have the best time and have a wonderful 15TH BIRTHDAY.
Lots of love from everyone back here in Perth. XXXXXXX Mum.

Hi Tom,
Pop went home today as they let him out of hospital yesterday. The staff at Royal Perth Hospital were brilliant and their only concern was to get Pop's lungs better and to have him breathing well again. Once again Pop shows us all what a true Aussie Battler is!! The weather has finally turned lovely here and I'm taking advantage of the holidays and doing lots of gardening. Unfortunately, I won't be able to move your room out into Dan's before you get back as we have had Nanna staying with us all week. Sounds like you've been having a great time and the scenery looks awesome. Everyone wishes they were there with you. Can't wait to taste the choccies!! How was Pisa and did you get a photo holding it up? Enjoy the Ferrari Museum today. Let us know if you need any more money. Try and call soon if you can. Luv ya lots!

Hey Anthony,

Glad to hear Pisa was 'awsum' and that you've been buying yourself some souveniers...

Sarah is in Sydney now, it's weird only haveing two kids at home. Ryan and Christopher are having a slumber party in Ryan's room tonight, lol, they were going to sleep in the family room with sleeping bags and Raggy, but of course Raggy was going nuts so he's back outside!

Thursday night we're going to Sorrento (that's Perth Sorrento, not Italy :( ) and tomorrow we're going to Gold Class movies..

Well your room is still far too tidy, it's very strange!
Hope you're remembering to wear those bands (she says fully expecting Anthony to say "Doh!") LOL

Talk to you soon, let us know if you need more money to buy my jewellery (just joking), but seriously if you need more money let us know..

Missing you,
Love
Mum & Co

Clark Family said...

Anthony,

I forgot, your report came and it was excellent, congratulations! It's amazing what a bribe of an Italian holiday can achieve! Don't know what we're going to do about next term though, ha ha ha!

Sarah went to the show and got you a showbag, nothing spectacular but it's the thought that counts!

Speaking of thoughts, have you thought to buy Miss Calanni, Miss Francis and Mr O'Neill a gelato for giving up their holidays to put up with all those boys? I hear that Clark kid can be a bit of a handful, ha ha ha!!

Six more sleeps till you're home, make the most of it!

I have transferred some more money onto your travel card No. 1 so you should be able to access it in a couple of days. Buy some stuff and mementos 'coz you won't be back in Italy for a while and you still have yet to see what Venice has on offer. Dad might like a T-shirt(don't get one that says....I went to Italy and all I got was this T-Shirt!). Nanna's birthday is today and she is still in SCGH however she seems to be improving(it's also Richie Benaud's birthday - Marvellous that!!). Looking forward to you coming home and all the stories, photos, etc. Did you buy a matchbox ferrari? Hope it was red if you did!! Love you Heaps!

hi everyone Venizia is awesome
I have not tried bisteca of Firenze because its way to big (700g to 1kg of steak)The pasta recipe i used in cooking is just 1 egg, and 100g of plain flour per person (more on it later).
I had a gondola ride today which was awesome. So far the trip has been great and CAN WAIT to come home. Venizia is so quiet and is a very superior and unique city compared to others. We must go here and to all the other places ive been aswell as torino, sicily and other places you have heard about.

G'day Mums and Dads,

The Dubai to Perth flight EK420 today (Saturday) was early - this is the flight that the boys are returning on on Monday. To check the progress of the flight on Monday go to the Perth Airport "Live Flight Tracking" site

http://www.perthairport.net.au/default.aspx?MenuID=11

and down at the bottom left are "All International Flights". Click it and put the mouse over the orange dot coming out of Dubia to Perth and the Time of Arrival will be displayed.

'citing isn't it ....
